We are currently hiring for multiple positions and searching for applicants of all ages
Qualifications: We are looking for personable and energetic individuals interested in learning about international cultures and making new friends from abroad. Candidates must be self-motivated and organized as well as patient and understanding when dealing with cultural differences.
Program Staff and Interns: We are looking for high school students, age 15 (Program Interns) or 16 (Program Staff) and older, to assist with this summer's programs. You will take part in all activities with the other students but are expected to be leaders and set an example of high level participation and enthusiasm. Both Interns and Staff will be asked to assist the younger students in the classroom and help lead the group during off-campus activities. We believe that hosting is an important part of the Explore Japan experience and prefer that all participants host a Japanese student during the program. As this is a family decision, Candidates should review the hosting FAQs on our web site and discuss them with their parents. A stipend or school credit will be given to Interns and Staff who work and host with us this summer.
Japanese Culture Teacher Positions: We are looking for personable and energetic people interested in sharing their knowledge of Japanese culture.Teachers must be self-motivated and organized, and love working with students age 8-18. Each Explore Japan teacher has a class of 12-15 students and usually has a student assistant with them. You will be asked to plan, organize and deliver a full series of fun, hands-on workshops including arts and crafts projects, language exercises, calligraphy, cuisine, music, and other topics related to Japanese culture. We can provide you with a sample template we have used to arrange the 10-12 day schedule of activities. In the afternoon, both the American students and the Japanese students embark on field trips together. The Explore Japan Teachers are expected to act as chaperones to help keep all of the students organized during the afternoon field trips. Competitive compensation will be provided.
Assistant Teachers: We are looking for college-age students with international experience to work directly with our English instructors and EJP Staff. You will assist the Explore Japan teachers in the morning during a series of workshops including arts and crafts projects, language exercises, calligraphy, cuisine, music, videos and martial arts.Although you are not expected to have knowledge on these topics, you are expected to be a fast learner and help the students in the classroom. You will also assist the English teachers who are teaching the Japanese students in the morning, helping them work on their conversational skills with a native English speaker. During the afternoon, you may be asked to take a lead in chaperoning off-campus activities. Competitive compensation will be provided.
ESL Teacher Positions: From 9AM - Noon each day, teach English to a group of visiting Japanese high school students using our curriculum but also mixing in some good exercises from your ESL experience. From 12:30 - 4:00, act as a chaperone for the group of mixed (Japanese and their local host students) students on a field trip to local areas, like Harvard, MFA, Canobie Lake Park, Bowling, Plimoth Plantation. ESL Teachers must be present at program each day by 8:30AM and there is one evening commitment (Farewell Party). We are looking for personable and energetic people interested in sharing their knowledge of America and the English language. Teachers must be experienced as an ESL instructor (preferably with teaching Asian students), self-motivated and organized, and love working with students of all ages. Competitive compensation will be provided.
